Our Story

DSC_0987.JPEG

Celebrating our 10th anniversary, we look forward to embarking on a new journey to forever, surrounded by our nearest and dearest.

We first connected through online dating and quickly learned our bond was undeniable, and went far beyond a screen. We would not be together today if Nick was not swiping on Bumble as he traveled past Britt's University one fateful day in 2016. After months of virtual back and forth, we met in person in Toronto, and the rest is history!

Each year, we plan an adventure in September, to celebrate another year around the sun together. Nick proposed on our eighth anniversary at the Scenic Caves in Collingwood - a special place where he grew up skiing with friends and family, and is now a special place for us and our future adventures. Later that fall, we celebrated our engagement in the charming town of Picton, Prince Edward County. We were graciously hosted by The CAPE, and we enjoyed everything the County had to offer. We couldn't help but fall in love with what soon became our wedding venue, where we now look forward to creating memories to last a lifetime!

Our Venue

CAPE.avif

Built between 1855-1863, originally the property’s resurrection was thought to be the perfect locale for a school for the culinary arts, to enhance the burgeoning food and wine scene the region was quickly becoming known for.  But, the graceful placement of the home and quiet elegance of the four Black Walnut trees framing the expansive garden called for the site to welcome celebrations of all kinds, and The CAPE was born – or should we say – reborn.

Originally owned by four-time Picton Mayor and the first representative in Ottawa in the establishment of the Government of Canada, Walter Ross, The CAPE tells many stories.  His rich family history can be found at every turn, from original tapestries and artwork to handwritten documents and cookbooks which inspire the modern chefs The CAPE features today.

Throughout the multi-stage renovation, every effort was made to conserve and highlight the unique architecture and original design elements.  A spacious veranda was added to create more outdoor space and build a layer between the main house and garden.  Local craftsmen were engaged to rebuild elements such as the Walnut front doors.  Carrera marble, found through many design elements within was used repeatedly through the venue, paired with high quality fixtures that blend contemporary style with historical elegance.  In addition, the motif of blue herons – a symbol of the region – can be spotted throughout the home, such as in the original 19th Century grillwork of radiators in each room – which were painstakingly sandblasted and electrostatically painted to preserve their delicate design.

From the vintage Hector Guimard lighting to the eclectic but seamless integration of period furniture, original artwork and family artifacts, The CAPE is a treasure trove of art and history in a stunningly bright space.  With plans to expand its offerings to include a larger-scale hotel, it will continue to delight guests and visitors the moment they set foot on the property.

Our Vendors

PEC Farmland.webp

We pride ourselves on supporting local in our every day lives, and most certainly on our wedding day! We are lucky to be working with some of the best in the County, and in the business.

Our delectable food offerings are thanks to Matt DeMille and his team. Matt is a veteran of the Toronto food scene, who completed stints at renowned restaurants LeSelect Bistro, Enoteca Sociale and Parts & Labour.

Now based in the Prince Edward County area, he helped to put Wellington on the food map as chef at Pomodoro. He then helped open the widely acclaimed Drake Devonshire Inn, which snagged a spot on Canada’s Best Restaurants List in 2016. In 2017, he launched a small, in-house, interactive dining program that brings the best of PEC into your home.

Our wine is a mix of family-collected vintages, and our favourite selections from a local Prince Edward County wine tour - most notably, the whites from Closson Chase vineyard.

We look forward to sharing our carefully curated selections with you!
